Prime rib is a classic holiday main dish, and definitely a family favorite here at L & M Meats! This impressive-looking cut of meat is both delicious and elegant, yet pretty simple to prepare. However, many people stress over how to prepare it because it's not a cut they enjoy every day and often, just during special occasions. Let us take a little stress off of the holidays by sharing our favorite preparation and roasting guide. Enjoy!
What to Do:
Preheat your oven to 450 degrees. This temperature is ONLY for the first 15 minutes of cooking. You will turn it down to 325 degrees later.
Remove your roast from the refrigerator and place in a roaster with the bone side down and fat side up. (if using a boneless roast, place on a rack inside the roaster).
Rub butter on the ends
Season as desired. We love a combination of: 1t black pepper, 1/2t coarse salt, 1t garlic powder, 1t onion powder.
Cover the entire meat with this seasoning mixture as a dry rub.
Place the roast in your heated oven and cook uncovered for15-min.
Adjust heat to 325 degrees for remainder of cooking time.
Total time will vary depending on size and your desired taste. However, you can plan on about 17-20 minutes per pound.
Invest in a good meat thermometer. It's the only way to tell when your roast has reached desired doneness. See cooking chart below for recommended roasting time.
